    SOLVED Updating Templates

Posted 12 years 6 months ago
    • What is the best way to update templates? I've been looking through the website and cannot find anything regarding this. I usually create a custom.css file to make any changes. I've done this in the past by replacing each file in the change log, but I now have some sites that are a few updates behind. I'm wondering what the easiest and most thorough process would be.

I apologize if this is covered somewhere else.
      Thanks,
      Sue

    • you can look at the full changelog and then update all the files listed in the version updates using the latest version equivalent of those files.

But... if you have only edited CSS then you should be fine keeping a copy of that and doing a full update using the installer.

As always make a backup using Akeeba Backup

    • Thanks for the quick reply. I was hoping for a quick fix that would update only the changed files. :cheesy: I have the sites backed up, I guess I will try a full update on one of them and see where that leaves me. That will change all of my settings in the template manager though, correct?? If so, maybe file by file is better...

    • it shouldn't but in some older sites that has happened on occasion, hence the backing up. :)
