SOLVED newbie setup/ template confusion

Hi
I am new to using a membership template service. Can I install templates from rockettheme onto the most recent joomla installation that I downloaded from joomla.org or do I need to use a special joomla version that is modied with gantry built into it for templates to work?
I attempted to install kirigami on a joomla.org supplied 2.5.8 -- when i switch it over to make it the default template i receive the following error when I go to "view site" -- I assume that I may be missing gantry -- not sure how to correct.

Use the template bundle on a Joomla! installation that does not already have Gantry installed. Use the standalone version for a site that already has Gantry installed.

I uploaded gantry stand alone version which resolved the error issue - however i do not get a site that even remotely looks like the "demo" version of it.. I know that the original art work /images will not appear however I thought that blanks or placecard holders would appear.
Instead i only get this uniqueapparelprinting.com/
any videos show the entire process of taking one of your templates and making operational for even a really basic site?
