    Mootools, Joomla 3.x and RT

Posted 12 years 4 months ago
    • Hi:

Joomla movement to bootstrap and jquery left a fundamental question, Why a website have to ,load both libraries? Not sure if RT position regarding mootools future have been published. Have read other template developers moving to jquery as it is foresee mootools might be removed from Joomla as close as Joomla 3.5.

Below is a quote from shape5 regarding this:
One of the biggest changes in Joomla 3.0 is the introduction of jquery. Mootools is still included with 3.0, but without mootools 1.2 support anymore. It is our opinion that running two javascript libraries on the same site is not a good idea and will effect the performance of the site. Since joomla has begun the transition over to jquery so will Shape5 products. Even though mootools is still included in 3.0, it is our general assumption that it will soon be removed, maybe even as soon as 3.5. Rather than waiting until mootools is removed altogether we have decided to make the switch now.

Will like to know RT position about mootools. In my sites most extensions already use jquery and I often have to deal with conflicts. Besides that, it is logical loading both libraries should make website a bit slower.

Well, this is my point of view....

      TIA

    • I will ask around, but bumping your own topic isn't smart :cheesy:
Just out of curiosity I had a look, bumping removes your posts from the que

    • Hi

It's sure that keping both librairies is a massive performance issue for big projects.

For big project mixing mootools and jquery is a real big issue. Not only it slows down the site but in some cases it is very difficult to make the two library coexist.

These problems just can't be solved by puting a single .noConflict() call.

Gantry is a preal lewel from a design point of view but we will switch to another framework if it won't switch to Jquery as Joomla did.

      thanks

    • Would love to know the movement on this as mootools is begining to be the slow end of the Joomla site. It accounts for almost half of my page loads.

For Rocktheme to have no real plans on jquery is a worry.

    • Hi:

Difficult decision but I *might* move from Gantry as it seems strategy is compatibility, not much aggressive regarding moving ahead. Resistance to change for reasons that only RT knows. Also, Joomla is not the only platform supported here.

Well, sadly I have begun looking for other options. Still waiting for RT feedback on this ...

    • I love RT and I think they will come up with a solution. Can we get something other than crickets Team RT?

    • Doesn't Gantry now use jquery only? Im running into issues with Hikashop because Hikashop utilizes mootools for its pop ups.
