same template with slight variation

    • I am using versatility III on joomla 1.0.13 and I want to add another copy of this template and change the template width for a different page of my site.

My question is, whats the easiest way to do this AND should the second template be directed to all the first templates files, except the ones that have the changes in them.

I want to know if there are benifits to the two templates sharing most of the same png files and so on...

    • The procedure has been described numerous times before :) Basically, you need to use the Assign feature in the Joomla Template Manager.

    • Thanks for your quick response; however my question was:

When I install a copy of a template I already have for my website. Should I have two full template copies sitting on my server, or should the second template be "light-weight"
meaning: basically share the same files as the first template, minus the css and html file... if those are infact the only files that would be altered between the two templates. I didnt know if there were advantages to not having two sets of template files on my server.

    • If you have the subsidiary copy load the images from the dominant copy then it would save load time. So change references in the CSS to fit the dominant template.
