SOLVED Hosting Joomla + rockettheme on Amazon's cloud

Posted 12 years 2 months ago
    • I am considering changing my hosting environment from a VPN to Amazon Cloud EC2 to save money and to provide flexibility to my website(s).

First of all, is anyone hosting Joomla site on Amazon cloud? Some of the extension require a (semi)dedicated server where PHP may need to be recompiled with different options. Is this possible with Amazon cloud?

Secondly how would I go about migrating one or more website to Amazon cloud? Is it a straight forward operation or there is more to it? The website I am willing to migrate is about 4GB in size and gets anywhere between 5k-10k visits a month.

      Thank you

You should really send this question to Amazon support and not here 8) I have to admit that I didn't hear about extensions that require PHP to be recompiled with different options. Which extensions are that and which options do the require?

You should use Akeeba backup for web site transfers

    • Igor,

As far as I remember it was "Reviews for Joomla" that required either cURL, in other instances PHP had to be recompiled to include few security extension. It was a part of server hardening not part of Joomla extension installation.

So if I decide to use Amazon Cloud, I can use Akeeba to backup and restore entire site? JoomlaArt has a special instance to be used in EC2 for their T3 framework. Most "Joomla, Amazon EC2" queries points to articles written by JoomlArt, not sure if it is applicable to RT templates.

    • None of those really ask for a recompilation of php. You just have to enable some php extensions which any good hosting support can do for you

    • Hi Igor-

Did you make the transition? I am currently considering the same now...

Anyone else use Amazon or Linode for hosting?
