SOLVED Upgrading to Joomla 3

    • We are currently looking into long term support for our customers and have started to investigate the process from Joomla 2.5 to 3.

Our trial site failed to upgrade, the upgrade worked but there was problems with the admin and we were getting a '500 error' on the front page. There is not much to this site only a small amount of content and a few plugins (mostly rockettheme).

The next step we stripped back to a plain Joomla 2.5.9 install and tested the upgrade, this was succesful. So we are assuming we have a component that has caused the problem.

Has anyone else been throught this process? If you can share your experiences it would be greatly appreciated.

    • I'm not ready to use J3 with my clients yet as I feel it doesn't offer enough of a new feature set over J2.5.9. I like the backend GUI but that still not enough to make me move.

As far as upgrading I've upgraded some of my J2.5.x testbeds that featured strictly Rockettheme products and I had no issues.

BTW one of our mods found this link that you may want to bookmark -> docs.joomla.org/How_to_restore_a_Joomla_...rate_to_Joomla_3.x.x

    • Thanks Dan,

I'm not pointing the finger at Rockettheme just a general point that we are not using components from random developers.

We're not yet going to start moving customers to 3.0 yet, we just want to test the process to try and prevent any issues when we do. We don't feel the move from 1.5 to 2.5 has been real smooth and it has frustrated some customers, so we are trying to think ahead with the next major update to ensure this is a smoother process.

I will continue testing and let you know how it goes.

PS. Very handy link, but I have learnt the hard way to backup a while ago (don't trust hosts backups). If you want it done right do it yourself.

    • Found my issue, a no number plugin that I forgot about wasn't compatible.

      Now to test 3

Would please post the name of the plugin as we mods keep tabs on things that break other things :)
If this resolves your issue then please check my signature and click the BUTTON beside "Marking your threads as Solved".
      Thanks.

    • No Number - Add to Menu, admin plugin.

This is a good plugin, its just not Joomla 3 ready and was causing an issue with the content after the update was completed.

      Will now mark as solved.
