Hey guys, this may be a very stupid question but I need to know.
I am brand new to Joomla. I need to create my new site using Joomla and it's features.
The Problem: My current site exists and is getting traffic and sales (getsafensecure.com).
The Question: Can I work on perfecting my Joomla site in a sub-directory (unseen by the public) and then swith it over to the root when it's ready? How?
You sure can. Create a new diretory under your current sites root dir.
i.e. if getsafensecure.com is under /public_http/ then create this /public_http/newsite_diretory (or whatever you want to call it)
Install Joomla in the new dir and there you go. As far as I know you can install Joomla as many times as you want as long as it's in a new directory each time. Also make sure you set up a new db for the Joomla install.
good luck. Also, check out the Joomla forums. You will probably find more info over there related to what you are trying to do.
Absolutely, you can build your new site in a subdirectory and then move it over when you are ready. The only thing you will need to change is the configuration.php to reflect the site's new location. As far as hiding it from the public goes, just name the subdirectory something odd.
Wade for the win! Man I am getting slow in my old age.
