Template for Photography Club Web Site

    • Hi,
I was picked to be the new web site administrator for my photo club. I'm going to update our web site. I'm new to Joomla, but I think it'll be a good way to go. I've setup a site on GoDaddy, and have played around with some free templates. Now, I'm ready to get started.

The members of the photo club want to be able to upload and manger their own photo gallary. It looks like I can use Gallary2 or Coppermine to do this. Any recommendations?

They also want a Calendar, that members can maintain themselves. And they want to be able to fill in a form on a web page, upload it to the database, then pull the data back down into a spreadsheet. Any recommendations on Exytensions for this kind of thing?

What about user account? Just use Joomla, or is there an extension (like a bulletin board) that I should use to manage users?

Would any of these RocketTheme templates be suitable. Or, is the one in particular that would be best for the type of site I have in mind?

Sorry, lots of questions, but a few quick answers could really help me from starting out in the wrong direction.

      Thanks!!!

    • Giving user the ability to upload files is always a mixed-bag. You never know when someone will upload something that they shouldn't or a file that is a security risk.

A nifty new feature that is available is the rok-flickr module. With flickr, you can create a group account and each person can create their own album and their images can be integrated into your site... all while, the images are stored off-site and more secure for you.

      Just a thought!

    • Thanks for the reply Wage! I'll check out flickr. Also, by searching this forum, it looks like a lot of people are using Gallery2.

Anyone have a suggestion on a good Calendar extension?

Imho the best calendar that you can buy is Thyme .
The free calendar that I prefer is Events Calendar .

      Where can one get Rok-Flickr?

    • Rok-Flickr was bundled with Colormatic. It is in the colormatic_mods_bots download section.

    • I would also suggest community builder and possibly fireboard for a forum. My personal pick for the Gallery would be gallery 2 and I like Jevents for calendering.
