  • SOLVED How to backup a Joomla

    • Hello Everyone,

      I just wanted to know how I can backup a joomla so that if a site is broken, hacked, or otherwise unusable how can we restore the site to full operation.

      Would downloading the whole thing and downloading the MySQL output be enough? How do you guys do it? What procedure would you recommend?

      Yes that would indeed be enough.

      I highly recommend purchasing and using Joomlacloner ( www.joomlaplug.com ), which automates the whole thing, and even allows CRON scheduling for regular auto-backups of the site data & database.

      If you want Quick and Easiest way, Dan has suggested you good solution. You can buy JoomlaCloner. It will be able to handle the backup thing for you.

      But, if you want to get your hand dirty, but with FREE solution:
      * You can use cpanel feature, "Full Backup", include the full directory and full database. But it will take long time depends on your website size.
      * You can also download/backup only the site you want to backup, via ftp or cpanel. Then, also download the proper database (via cpanel or phpmyadmin).

The archive contains all the files, a database snapshot and an installer derived from the standard Joomla! installer. The backup and restore process is AJAX powered to avoid server timeouts, even with huge sites. Alternatively, you can make a backup of only your database. If you want a reliable, easy to use, open source backup solution for your Joomla! site, try it out.
