Change Template Settings Write new CSS

- Whenever I make a change to the settings of the template joomla writes a new CSS and I have to start over with all the changes I made manually to the template.
  
  Why does it do that, and how can I turn it off?

  never change files in the css compiled folder!

- Since I'm using the Oculus template which was created in June 2013, I've created a file named rt_oculus-custom.less located in the directory "/public_html/templates/rt_oculus/less/rt_oculus-custom.less".
  
  The gantry framework doesn't want to acknowledge the rules and won't load my custom page. I apologize, I'm a bit new to web design but can't figure out what I've done wrong.
  
  I've followed those instructions, and even created a file "/public_html/templates/rt_oculus/css/rt_oculus-custom.css". For the earlier gantry framework templates. Am I missing something?

- public_html/templates/rt_oculus/less/rt_oculus-custom.less
  
  does NOT work but
  
  public_html/templates/rt_oculus/css/rt_oculus-custom.css
  
  works.
  
  if you want to add a custom less file you can try
  
  public_html/templates/rt_oculus/less/template-custom.less

- I know. I've created
  
  public_html/templates/rt_oculus/css/rt_oculus-custom.css
  
  and it states that the gantry framework will automatically populate the style sheet which it still hasn't. I can only modify the compiled css sheets still.

- well it loaded but you left that file empty

- How do I populate that file with the CSS? Or am I to write rules in there accordingly?
