I can't remove a article from my home page getting error msg

This article "Getting Started" and all the wording below it was on my site when I downloaded the template never thought much about it until I just tried to delete it and when I do that my site does not work. I get an error which I have taken a screen shot of and attached.

- what is the menu item type for the page in question? If it is single article then an article that is published need to be assigned to that menu item. You can switch the menu item type to Featured Articles. If yo do not have any featured articles and/or do not want to display any articles on the Home page you can also remove the remaining main body block in the advanced tab of the template manager.

I have tried to remove the remaining main body block in the advanced tab of the template manager but the article that is selected for the home menu item type (which is "simplicity #2) still also populates at the bottom of the page (see screen shot #1) in addition to where it is supposed to appear which is right below the slide show.
Any idea what I am doing wrong?

- if you edit your previous post the "upload attachment" tab should be at the bottom of the page. When replying you need to type some text then select the "Preview" button to get the full editing tools.
