Repositioning focus to Mainbody on Page

As pages become more and more complex often the mainbody is not visible in the browser. I used to use HTML on page bookmarks to reposition at the proper place on the page when a link was clicked. Now when a user clicks say in a matrix or other element the mainbody much lower on the page changes but what is visible in the browser often doesn't change. This is common for me in both Joomla and Wordpress using Gantry and Sprocket but could also be any other module. Is there a way to change this so when an item like in a matrix is clicked the mainbody would become the focus of the browser window like on page links does?
