    Reponsive Design and Ad Display

Posted 11 years 3 months ago
    • HI All:

I am getting ready to apply a new RT template, with responsive design to my site at ChesapeakeFamily.com. My question is, how will this effect my ads and can I have certain ad modules left out if the viewer is looking at the site on a mobile device? We use full banners and towers (220 x 182) and some of those would not do well if they are simply shrunk down on the mobile iteration of the site. By the same token, we might want to have ads that only show up on the mobile version because they are sized optimally for it? Hope this makes sense. We generate a lot of revenue from our ads and need a way to seamlessly incorporate them into our mobile version. Thanks!

    • Look at the tutorials for whichever template you intend to use - there is a thread therein entitled "creating responsive content". Basically it depends on how those banner modules are written - are they using an extension? are they designed to behave responsively?

You use module class suffixes to determine what content (modules) are shown such as "hidden-phone". You can also use media queries in CSS too.

    • Thanks Mark.

I am using a component called Ad Agency (by iJoomla) and we have been pretty happy with it so far. I can create a zone (module) with specific ad placement and if I can have that module turned on or off through the class suffix styling that should suffice. I am not sure if those types of modules are designed to behave responsively - basically change size depending on device. How can I find that out before I install the module? I appreciate the quick response.
