SOLVED Joomla & WP together can it be done?

I have and older site in Joomla with the Juxta theme that has a lot of articles with pictures (funeral home). Is it possible to keep the joomla site in a directory allowing acces to the obituaries and create a new site in WP with the new obits being in the WP site? Because it is a very busy funeral home there is no down time any ideas on this would be appreciated!

It can be done to have the Joomla site in a subdirectory and have the wp site in the root. You could then just link from the wordpress site to the Joomla site with a hyperlink.
That being said, it's an older version of Joomla. Depending on your hosting environment and the third-party extensions being used, it could be vulnerable from a security perspective. Wherever it is hosted may decide to implement newer versions of PHP which can throw errors to an older Joomla site or perhaps even have it not work at all.
Igor's suggestions to migrate the Joomla data to wp is a good one if wp is the route you want to go. Trying to keep an older version of Joomla running can be frustrating as things break and it's difficult for extension developers to continue supporting them. Whether you migrate to a newer version of Joomla or go to wordpress is up to you. I do suggest you do something though. You very well may be able to do it with very little downtime. I rarely have any more than 10-15 minutes of downtime on a typical Joomla migration.

Thanks Igor, and Jenn, that's what is happening, old site and old template so I need to do something and have been designing in WP more than Joomla for awhile. Think I'll try the plugins that Igor provided.
