Left Side Menu Options

I need some advice.........doing a new site that has a neutral top (images only) with no real top navigation allowed. What I need most is very robust left side menu that can expand out for child items, similar to the image below. My question is will any of the custom menus (Rok) work as a left side navigation element. Is there a "Slider" menu or would "Suckerfish" work on the left.
Any thoughts greatly appreciated
