    Changing a template's background color?

Posted 17 years 5 months ago
    • Hi,
I looked through the html & css sripts, but couldn't find the area that specified the background color. I love the layout (vortex), but need a light green theme. Could someone help me out? I am new to all this, so bare with me as I try to figure out this whole website deal ;)
      Thanks!

    • firefox can help you locate the exact entry in your css file that you need to change

      get,, use firefox,,,

get,, use web developer tools plugin once it is installed into firefox

on the PC,, press ( CNTRL+SHIFT+Y).. your cursor become active,,, mouse over your background and select,,, the info you seek,, the css file it is in,,, and the line of code will be displayed..

      :)

    • It's usually on the body {} definition in the CSS file - for RT, will be the override value in style1.css...style2.css...style3.css etc. Just look for a background:(url...) statement.

Okay, I found the light_orange.css file, and clicked Edit. Now I'm lost!

There are a million definitions that use background:(url...)!
Do all the urls mean orange (which I want to change to green)? How do I override them?
I tried deleting the urls and typing in a color code, but that didn't work.

Is there a separate file where I can find the urls and change them from orange to green?

I'm so clueless with all this, thank in advance for the help!

    • You mean a link to my site? It currently defaults to my smf forum. Let me try to see if I can change that default back to the main page...

    • Actually, for the changes you're looking to do, you'll need to modify the template source files and replace the ones in the current template dir. You can download the source files in the downloads section for Vortex.

You mean vortex_source_pngs.zip? I have that saved on my desktop! So I would have to go in and manually change the colors of the images, huh?

When I open the images, I'm not given any option to edit them... Is it because I don't have the right editing software?

And when I get the images edited, do I need to do anything to, um, make things official? Meaning, is there a process of reloading or transfering the changes to the website? (God, I don't even know the technical terms for all this, haha!)

    • You'll need to download the Vortex Source files from the same place you downloaded Vortex. Then open up the source files in Adobe Fireworks, find your style then edit to your liking. Once you've finished editing, you'll need to save each web slice and the upload to your Joomla templates Vortex images directory.
