As you have an existing site your will need to use the "standalone" template package and install this in extension manager.

Joomla 2.5 is no longer supported by Joomla (we do though for the time being). So yes, if you can it would be better to migrate your site to joomla 3 first.

If you want to upgrade from Joomla 2.5 to Joomla 3.x these are the steps to follow:

      1. backup backup backup!
      2. make sure that you meet the system requirements for J3.x (min php 5.3.10).
      3. check that al RT products are on latest versions (gantry, rt extensions and template) update any that aren't and clear server cache and browser cache. Check that RT template you are using is compatible with Joomla 3.x http://www.rockettheme.com/joomla-templates-compatibility-matrix . You can check all current version numbers in extension manager > manage. Please note if you are using "mission control" admin template that you need to uninstall this by following these special instructions http://www.rockettheme.com/forum/missioncontrol-joomla-admin-template/235181-important-information-about-uninstalling-mission-control .
      4. check all your third-party extensions are up to date and that they are compatible with J3.x
      5. test test test! to make sure anything you updated does still work ok
      6. backup backup backup!
      7. disable "system - remember me" plugin in extension manager > plugins
      8. update to J3.x and clear server and browser cache again.
      9. test test test!
      10. backup backup backup!
      11. re-enable "system - remember me" plugin.

      Regards, Mark.

    • Thanks for the advice,
i've tried installing the template on a mock site that i have that i practiced on before i switched my main site , i've tried to just install the standalone template , i can't update to joomla 3.2 as i dont have the right php configuration , after i tried to make the template active i got this message whilst checking the dummy website

Fatal error: Call to undefined method Gantry::getCurrentTemplate() in /var/www/vhosts/sportscarprotection.com/httpdocs/sportscarprotection2/templates/rt_iridescent/html/com_content/featured/default.php on line 16

What does this mean and how do i solve it please ?

      Cheers

    • That message sounds like you haven't got Gantry installed?

But also, if you can't update to latest joomla 3.3.6 then no versions of Joomla 3 are going to work since they all have the same minimum requirement for php (5.3.10 minimum).

    • Hi Mark,
      thanks for that ,
ive now updated my database to the relevent PHP settings,
ive clicked on the joomla button just to have a look and its showing an error message
"The PHP allow_url_fopen setting is disabled. This setting must be enabled for the updater to work"
Where do i go to change this to enable me to update to joomla 3 ?
      cheers

    • Thanks Mark ,
thats all done and now i have other problems ,
ive installed the newwer template on my dummy site just to try a few ideas out and all that works fine .
i uploaded the iridescant template into the admin for my real site and although i can switch templates it wont let me go into any of the template settings even on the existing hadron template , i keep getting the error message :-

"The server encountered an internal error or misconfiguration and was unable to complete your request.

Please contact the server administrator, This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it. and inform them of the time the error occurred, and anything you might have done that may have caused the error.

More information about this error may be available in the server error log."

The only thing i have done is install the iridescant bundle and also Rokupdater , once i had installed rokupdater it asked me to log in to rocketheme for authentication but it wouldnt accept my login details , kept showing up as an error even though i put the right details in , I even reset my password just in case. I have now turned that Rockupdator off but still get the error message above

    • im also getting these in extension manager Warnings

PHP Upload Size bigger than POST size
The value of the upload_max_filesize in the php.ini file is greater than the post_max_size variable. The post_max_size variable will take precedence here and block requests larger than it. This is generally a server misconfiguration when trying to increase upload sizes. Please increase the upload_max_filesize to at least match the post_max_size variable or vice versa

The PHP temporary directory is not set
The PHP temporary directory is the directory that PHP uses to store an uploaded file before Joomla! can access this file. Whilst the directory not being set isn't always a problem, if you are having issues with manifest files not being detected or uploaded files not being detected, setting this in your php.ini file might fix the issue.

      Any ideas ??
      Thanks

    • You need to look in the apache error log for a more detailed error message associated with the server500. You can also try setting global config error level to "maximum" too to se eif that yields more error messages. My guess is that you php memory_limit is too low on your server (should be 128M or higher). Also ensure that all RT products are up to date too and the extensions that the template requires are installed (e.g. gantry, roknavmenu).

    • On your second post - yes... do what the error says to sort this out - though it shouldn't cause dramatic issues.
