phpbb/Osmosis and programming newbie - quite lost

    • Hi folks,

I've recently started a new board and paid someone on "fiverr" to configure/host/setup the site and to install the "osmosis" template for me as it was quite a bit above my level of understanding. After the install was complete, I expected that editing the backend (setting up the forums, changing the background pictures, etc) would be pretty straightforward as I had reviewed the demos on the Rockettheme site and the menus appeared to be quite easy to manipulate. What I didn't understand at the time, but am beginning to, is that I need to run something called a "MAMP", then install something called "Joomla" and then another program called "Gantry" to be able to edit things without actually going into the coding of the theme to make these changes - is that a correct summation? I apologize if these questions are answered elsewhere - I did search the forums but haven't been able to solve the issue on my own.

The only successful editing I've been able to do on my site is to hide the "theme selection" option, add a title (which is somehow compressed now...something I did in the script I imagine), and a few other minor edits. I have seen how to add/remove different forums but haven't bothered with it just yet as I was trying to change the background image on the main page. My site is: www.europeanmotorcycleclassics.com if that helps and I'm running my software on a Macbook Pro. It's running the newest OSX system.

Again, I apologize if I'm asking some questions that have been run into the ground, but I don't have any techie friends who would be able to assist me in my project!

      Thanks,

      -Matt

    • Hey folks,

I'm also trying to get help from other php bb forums but they are saying that the Rockettheme stuff is pretty different in the backend than other templates...is that correct?

Below is the link to another forum post I made; promise I'm making an effort on my own, so any experienced advice from rockettheme users would be greatly appreciated!

    • Matt,

Judging from your site it looks like you are just going to to use phpbb3 for your site.
      Is that your plan?
