My server configuration does not allow to upload larger files (max_filesize and max_post_size error), and my hosting provider seems to be incapable to make changes. I need to install a new template/Gantry bundle, the filsize of which is over my limits.
So i want to upload the necessary files via FT, then install via "Install from folder".
Questions:
Where to exactly do I upload the files, and do I need to unzip first and then upload them (I cannot unzip on the server)? I tried to upload the zip file into the public_html/tmp folder and then install via folder from there, but then i get an error message "no installation package found".
Do I need to unzip the bundle and install template and Gantry separately? I tried to install the "template only" zip file and the latest Gantry package separately (both are under my filesize limit), but if I do, I gett an error message in the frontend saying that Gantry is missing.
You're making really hard work of this just to cater for a poor hosting company. It shoud be easy for them to change you upload_max_filesize and post_max_size in your php.ini.
Nevertheless to do want to do you would need to install a clean joomla first. Then upload the bundle (gantry plus template) zip to somewhere on your server via ftp. Then, go to extension manager and install the package from the location where you uploaded the zip. Next you'll have to do the same for all the extensions required by the template too.
Personally, I'd change hosting company if they're that incapable.
Regards, Mark.

Couldn't agree with you more as far as the php.ini goes. In the meantime, after three days and a dozen emails going back and forth, they finally managed to put a php.ini in the root, and after I copied it into the admin directory, the installation from package went through.
I'll give them a wide berth in the future - talking about Hosteurope.es by the way, fwiw.
