After using all the Joomla carts, I am convinced Ecwid is by far the best Joomla cart. Ecwid takes all the stress out of shopping carts. It is simply amazing.
(I recently had to just dump a Hikashop cart and quickly switch to Ecwid because a client was just losing a lot of orders/business due to misc Hikashop issues--and slow or no support despite having a paid version.)
Any plans to create another shopping cart theme integrating Ecwid?

No, I don't believe there are. Are development team are flat out with Gantry 5 developments for the foreseeable future.
