SOLVED Are All Particles Interoperable with All Gantry 5 Templates
Posted 9 years 4 months ago
Even with two Gantry5 sites under our belt, I feel like we are still getting our Gantry5 sea legs.
That said, I'm curious if we can we use newer Gantry5 particles with earlier Gantry5 templates? If so, are they automatically included with the Gantry5 updates?

You can yes, but it's a manual job to copy them and their dependencies. No, they are not included in Gantry 5 updates (except the few core ones) Each template has it's own set of particles, even if they're called the same thing they can differ infunctionality between templates.
We deliberately kept the majority of particles out of the Gantry 5 core to avoid "bloat" and keep Gantry 5 as fast as possible. We won't be including every particle in every template for the same reasons too.

Hey Mark,
Merry Christmas and thanks for the quick reply.
I'll read up on creating a particle override. Thanks.
I understand not wanting to add bloat, to Gantry 5, but I wonder if it doesn't make sense to offer particle TWIG and YAML files for DL, much like you offer extensions? Just a thought.

The templates are commercial products - not everyone buys a club subscription but instead they can buy just one template. So, no they won't be available for download. But in the future it is our intention to release both commercial and free particles for download.
