New Member - I'm slightly afraid to ask Mambo / SMF questions...but...

    • Hello All,

I understand that RocketTheme is staunchly in the Joomla camp after the "falling out". I completely and totally respect this decision.

As I am not much of a programmer (a barely passable hacker, really), I was slightly more comfortable staying with Mambo, especially since I love SMF and it is the main cornerstone of our site.

That being said, I have decided to join the template club here because, after looking around for quite a bit, there was nothing else out there even close to as good as the templates I have seen here at RocketTheme.

Let me get to my question:

How hard is it going to be for me to use one of the RocketTheme templates for Mambo with a bridged SMF? To even more complicate things, I would prefer to keep using the default theme in SMF. I was hoping to be able to make some CSS and image changes, possibly minimalizing the SMF look. I am using Mambo 4.6.3, SMF 1.1.4 and the Orstio SMF bridge version 1.1 stable.

Can someone here point me in the right direction?

      Thank you!

    • The templates for Joomla should actually work on Mambo. Only the extensions, and/or the menu that may conflict with Mambo. But, it should all work.

    • Thank you very much for the reply...

I guess the next question is...do you know how difficult it would be to make the extensions compatible with Mambo? How about the Javascript menus?

I am much more concerned about the menus than the extensions...

      Thanks again,

    • Have you considered moving to Joomla to simplify your life? ;)

Fyi, the forum on this Joomla site (Rocket Theme) is SMF.

      Cheers!

    • I figured this response was coming...

No offense...but I choose to stick with what is working...functionally...now...

I realize that it would be easier to use these great templates if I was using Joomla, but that just isn't gonna happen in the short term.

      Thanks for the response, though!

    • I said "may" not work with mambo. For the most part, they should work but you will have to try it out. Trying is usually the best method for this type of thing.

      James,

True...very true...and that is what I shall do.

Even though it may take some additional work to get these templates working, I already know it will be worth it - these themes are great looking - very up-to-date, professional and varied.

      Thanks again for the input!

    • Hi Steve,
Did you 'suck n see' with using RT template with Mambo?

If so, I'd love to hear which template, what version of Mambo & what (if any) problems you encountered. I have to implement a Mambo site & I usually use RT templates on Joomla only, so would love a heads up!

      Thanks,
      Eddie

    • Eddie,

I am a little short on time right this moment (son needs dinner), but I wanted to respond ASAP.

Actually, I did not have any major issues with Mambo and RT templates.

I used Versatility III and am using Mambo 4.6.2.

The only issue I had was integrating the Rokslideshow extension, which is not a part of this template by default. Once I upgraded the mootools.js version, this problem went away.

I cannot think of any other issues that I had off the bat...I'll try to post here if I remember anything.

you can see the finished product here: www.dockdogs.com .

      Good luck!

    • Wow that's interesting to note. Any reason why you didn't go with Mambo 4.6.3? (please don't answer until after your son is fed :) )
