SOLVED Image preview for unregistered users

Posted 9 years 1 month ago
    • Hi,

I am creating and inserting images onto each page within a mosaic for non registered users (public) to view and be able to click on, which will then promptly take them to the registration page. Once registered I would like them to be taken to the actual page that the image links to.

At the moment, if I set the article that the image links to, as registered access only, the image will not appear for guests and therefore non-registered users do not get to see the image in the first place let alone the article. I would like the image to appear but not allow access until the guest is logged in and when logged in be re-directed to the page requested.

Could anybody help with this? I am using the Myriad template and an example of this can be found at touchtight.com/practices/by-skill/passing .

      Thanks,

      Leon

    • RokSprocket can't pull the image if it's set to registered access only and the user isn't logged in... so I would recommend setting a Custom Image on each RokSprocket Item instead of setting it to default to the Article image

    • Thanks Matt,

What about the article itself? I'm sure that if I set an article to be accessed by registered users only that if I put this article in the Roksprocket mosaic with a custom image, it will still only appear if the user is logged in, otherwise the user will not even see this option in the Mosaic. Is this correct?

Ideally I would like users to access a page, see lots of image options to click within a roksprocket module that takes them to specific articles, some of which will be set for registered only and others for public. On clicking the registered (logged in) image, if user is not logged in it should take them to the registration page, once logged in it should redirect them to teh page of choice.

Again, any advice very much appreciated.

    • I'm not sure... give it a shot... I think RS might just error on the item

In general, I would not recommend RokSprocket to try and display mixed (registered and non-registered) content like this

    • Ok thanks Matt,

I will try that, but I'm pretty sure it doesn't work. What would you use to display this sort of content if not roksprocket. I am considering using CB Builder for this but it does seem a bit clunky compared to other extensions/solutions. I'm no expert but this is what I have at the moment.

    • I don't know of anything dynamic offhand... If it were me, I suppose I would just use RokSprocket in Simple Provider mode to control images, text, and links manually... if an Item is for registered users only I would then direct them to registration page as opposed to linking directly to an item they don't have access to.

    • Ok, that sounds like an idea so then when user clicks on image it will take them to registration page. I suppose the tricky bit is then for users to get back to the page they came from. Is it possible to show a new mosaic with actual links for registered content once users log in and hide the initial roksprocket for logged in users? This way users can then click the new mosaic link to take them to registered content, with the initial roksprocket seen before being logged in now hidden. Just a thought..

Not on the same page, no... you could have them on seperate pages though... one being Public and one being Registered

    • Ok,

I'm guessing if i have 200 pages for public and have 4 tiers of membership I would have to have 4 x 200 pages = 800 Quite large?! for replicated content. Seems like the only way at the moment.

      Thanks again,

      Leon.
