SOLVED Current Plans for RT Extensions

    • I have some concerns/confusion about whether we should be using and/or depending on the RT extensions in Gantry 5 or not.

Since G5 templates are not using the extensions, I'd like to know why. Are you integrating them all into the G5 core?

Specifically, is RT planning on phasing out the extensions for G5 and above? If not, no worries. If so, how long Will RT continue to support them?

I am content to wait a bit on an answer if someone could check with the development team. I'm sure others would like to know as well. Might be a good blog post for the members on this one.

      Thanks,
      Carol ;)

    • Because we are developing our templates for multiple CMS's we tend to use the traditional RT extensions less than we used to, but, they all still work on Gantry 5 and we do use them occasionally.

We won't be releasing any more Gantry 4 templates and it's unlikely we will build any further RT extensions for the specific CMS platforms. We're now concentrating on developing Gantry 5 templates and particles to go with those templates. As time goes by we have increased the sophistication of the particles we offer with the templates and Gantry 5. Recently we made changes to core Gantry 5 to add a "Joomla Article" particle and to provide hooks for developers to write their own particles that can draw data from Joomla. This new functionality paves the way for even more sophisticated particles in the future.

That said, we're not going to be replacing all RT extensions with equivalent particles in Gantry 5. There's no need to do that since the extensions we offer work and will continue to be supported.

Gantry 4 templates and RT extensions still form by far the largest part of our portfolio and we have no plans to discontinue support for any of these for the foreseeable future.

I hope that answers your questions.

      Regards, Mark.
