Advice on Setting up Joomla on IP address for test then switching to Live site!

I have a dedicated IP address for a client to set up on Joomla! However, it seems Joomla needs the actual domain name for the files to work properly. The domain DNS (example host.com) is controlled by my client and they will change the DNS from current register to my register at godaddy once approve the design on IP/test site.
I am having issues trying to figure out the nest way to create a site for testing all year, then once i get approval on changes being made, then I put it live! I would like to copy the database or files then upload them, but I don't think its that easy!
My clients don't want to mess with the admin, they just want to see a test site before anything goes live, ......you feel me!
Any recommendations will be greatly appreciated!

if all you want is an environment to show the site can you not just create an area on your own domain, i.e.:
www.keyinsolutions.com/client - www.c3p0.se - sweden

Well, my hosting account is different platform Windows, and not Linux. I am just starting with Joomla and, That might not be a bad idea to install it in that directory!....Can I just simply copy the data base from that directory and ftp it into my clients? WILL the information and styles remain the same?

Posted 17 years 3 months ago- Again, I am new to Joomla and its functions. When you save pages and the content, does that information go into the database. If so, I should be able to export a database onto a production site from the development...CORRECT...
