update to J3, blank page and Undefined variable: gantry

We are upgrading to Joomla 3.5.1 on a test site copy of a production site.
Previously we had Joomla 2.5.6
Gantry 3.2.19
rt_clarion 1.2
I updated to Gantry 4.1.31 as part of J3 upgrade.
The admin interface now shows J3, but the site comes up blank and the server error log shows:
PHP Notice: Undefined variable: group_params_reg in /var/www/devtech/htdocs/templates/rt_clarion/features/fusionmenu.php on line 64
PHP Notice: Undefined variable: gantry in /var/www/devtech/htdocs/templates/rt_clarion/error.php on line 20
PHP Fatal error: Call to a member function init() on a non-object in /var/www/devtech/htdocs/templates/rt_clarion/error.php on line 20
Any suggestions on how to get past the fatal error?
Also, our rt_clarion template has been customized, but the specific changes were not done by us, so to move to latest clarion would be a lot of work figuring out the customization. Will that be a problem trying to run rt_clarion 1.2 on Joomla 3?

Make sure that all RT products are up-to-date (backup before updating anything), clear server and browser cache after you have updated.

Clarion had not been updated to v1.9 so I did this for you. You have a template (based on clarion v1.2) that you have renamed - you would need to rename it back if you wanted to update this (rt_clarion_devtech).
Roktabs had not been updated to v1.13 so I did this for you.
Your site seems to be working ok now?

From the server side, I put back rt_clarion 1.2 because it has customizations that we want to preserve. Not surprising, we are back to a blank screen.
Is there any way to run rt_clarion 1.2 on a Joomla 3 system?

J3 didn't even exist at the time of v1.2. J3 Compatibility was not introduced until v1.5 and has had several updates since to maintain compatibility. So, no, V1.2 will not work with J3.x. All customisations should be done in a custom CSS file or with HTML overrides, you should never change any of our original template files.
