After over ten years a member of RT, it's time to say goodbye.
Gantry 5 has done it for me. I just don't want to use this. I can't show it to clients, it cannot be searched by the Joomla system and it is over-complicated. If I mention particles and atoms to a client a glazed look appears and the game is lost. Articles and Categories was easy to explain but for some reason everything has moved away from simplicity. Another theme provider now has some peice of rubbish called 'Site Builder' that integrates with 'Zoo' and 'WidgetKit'. I mean, WTF?
This has taken control away from the developer. It's another system to learn. I was quite happy with Gantry 4. I was quite happy before the days of Gantry to be honest but I guess times and devices change. I remember the excitement when the first MooMenu appeared in a RT template but even menus have several different ways of editing them none of which seem to do anything unless you know the secret handshake.
So I'm on the lookout for alternatives. Not necessarily a CMS either. I like the look of the Bootstrap stuff out there and will probably invest in that.
Hopefully things will turn around and something will be provided for the developer like me where the template is blank, sits on Joomla and is easy and simple to bespoke into a great looking site. When that happens I'll consider forking out to renew my membership.
