    • Are there any preferred/recommended steps and/or plugins that work well with Rocketheme templates to improve page loads?

Besides the typical step of enabling cache and Gzip compression, compiling css and even trying a plugin (JCH Optimize) I have not been able to get my score up on Google's Pagespeed Insights analyzer

      Some suggestions coming back include:
Minifying owlcarousel.js and Enabling compressing on things like rokbox.js.

There are others, but unrelated to the template

      Thanks!

    • focus on the "others" I would say... compressing/minifying JS only gets you a few extra points.

JCH Optimize Pro has options for all of that.

Personally... if I get the score over 75 I don't worry about it too much... many of Google's own sites don't score perfectly themselves.

    • Thanks Matt!

Is it okay to use both RokBooster and JCH Optimize?

I appreciate the advice on the "others". From what I can see its relating to images mostly, which is making me wonder if using CDN is better idea that optmizing images before posting them.

    • No, you shouldn't use both RokBooster and JCH... one or the other

Images are among the heaviest load on a site and should always be well-optimized up front... even if you're using a CDN, unless your CDN further provides the services of compressing/optimizing your images it isn't going to improve your PSI score.

I optimize all my images with this tool: kraken.io/web-interface -- I toggle it to lossless myself which is all Google requires... lossy will squeeze a little more out of them though
