I want to hide a menu for all users

I am sure I have done this before but cannot find any help on it.
I have published a pdf on a menu 0 single arlicle.
I want it to be accessible on a redirect but not actually show in any menue. This way the reader has to register using AcyMailing and then be redirected to the download page.
Any assistance would be appreciated, I am sure there is something there i need to switch off and I'm just missing it.

Can't you just create the menu item in a hidden menu (one that is not published)?
