The Terms of Service address this issue but it leaves out some key benefits and possible pitfalls (from a developer standpoint).
I include in my pricing the cost of an individual Template Club Membership for one year PLUS an individual template purchase in the client's name. Once you turn the site over to the client, they have their own access to documentation, updates and support. If they haven't changed their template within a year or if they don't renew the yearly membership, they still have LIFETIME access to template updates, downloads, documentation and forum support for their template. That leads to great customer relations and less headaches for you in the long run.
Also keep in mind, if your client doesn't have their own membership, YOU will be the middle man if design support is needed from RT and that can get VERY time consuming for YOU once development is complete. Also, maintenance contracts often end as the client becomes proficient in using and maintaining their site. When that happens, their site will be under your registration after they are long gone. Who will answer their design questions then? With a lifetime template purchase, they still have a professional design team at their disposal. This is an amazing perk for the client and good relations for you. It frees your time for developing more sites instead of training and maintenance.
The best advertisement is word of mouth. RT's flexible clubs create ease and harmony for us and happy clients now and in the future (not to mention making us look like superstars for doing what we love).
It's a win/win for all involved.

You asked if you could create demo sites with RT products on your own site and sell them.
So here's the LONG version of my answer:
That's a "NO NADA OMG NO!" on several levels BUT, there's a way to sell their products.
As to your Developer's License:
You may create and sell a custom site using Rocket Theme products under your developer's license BUT you must manage all support requests for the client sites you built under YOUR license through YOUR account. Your client's support team is then "you and only you" relaying information back and forth when you hit a snag and need help on a completed site. YOU get prompt support under your Developer's License which is the absolute BEST perk of being a developer around here. Time is crucial.
Once you have completed production on the site and are ready to hand it over to the client, you have to think about continued training on Administration as well as Site (design) maintenance. Who is responsible for that? Do you have a maintenance contract? Do you have the staff? How many clients are you juggling at once? If you don't want the headaches involved with the following:
- Joomla! upgrades
Training
Template/Extension upgrades
future tweaks
support
documentation upgrades; and
individual site upgrades for each client under your license
...purchase an individual membership for the client. You can still login and handle things for the client under their license until they are ready to do it themselves. This is where YOU save time and money when you are understaffed or flying solo (or when they cancel your maintenance contract).
AFTER the sale when you are production ready but the client is NOT ready to manage it alone (two different animals), you turn their support questions over to Joomla! and the RT Team. This saves time on TRAINING, money, support requests AFTER the sale and more. There's no middle man (you) so Joomla! and RT can directly address the needs of the client. In this way, you have a TEAM for training and design partners for your client. If they have purchased a lifetime template, expert support is continued even when you are long gone. Everyone gains in the long run and happy customers are good business and the best advertising.
It's all based on your decisions as to how you want to manage your business and do it honestly and legally with RT.
Now then, another way is to simply promote and sell Rocket Theme products and/or link to demos for their products. Then you must sign up for Rocket Theme's Affiliate Program. There is a link at the bottom right of every page.
This program has reasonable restrictions, terms and guidelines on how you may use and/or present their products on your site for direct sales. They have approved links and sales materials available to help you as wellAgain, creating semi or quasi demo sites with their templates is a no-no.
Lastly, I've been with ShareASale since they started several years ago. They are honest, trustworthy and reputable. -

No, we don't allow for reselling or bundling, where clients download our template packages from you. If you use our themes as part of a service, which involves substantive, individual customization to each client, then that is fine. - Last Edit: 7 years 11 months ago by Kat05.
