    Moderate User registration

    Posted 17 years 2 months ago
    • I need to be able to turn off the automatic registration that comes with Joomla. I want people to be able to register, but require them to be approved before being able to access website content. Is there a way to set this up or cinfigure it so that people can register but cannot see the website's content until a moderator can approve their membership?

      Can this be steup in the admin of Joomla or is there an easy plugin module available?

      Thanks

      You can control user registration via the Global Configuration/ Site tab - have a look at the options.
      You can set modules to be viewed by Public, Registered and Special and you can set the access level of content to Public, Registered or Special.

      I hope that this helps.

      Ok looking at the site global settings and doing some research this is what these options do...

      Ok looking at the site global settings and doing some research this is what these options do...

      Allow User Registration: Set whether visitors to the web site site can register for a User account. If set to Yes the Login Form will also include the link... No account yet? Create one... If set to No there will be no option to register and only existing Registered Users will be able to access the member areas of the web site.

      Comments:::

      Ok we have that set to yes because we DO want to allow people to register, however we do not want their accout to automatically be active. We want the ability to approve the membership account first before they have the ability to see or view certain content. So if we place this to no....then they can't register, if we set it to yes, then they can register, but their account will immediately become active, which we don't want.

      Use New Account Activation: As an additional security measure it is possible to require new Users to confirm the e-mail address that was provided during the registration process is in fact valid. If this process is required by the site administrators then set the radio button to Yes. An activation link will be sent in an e-mail to the new User's e-mail address.

      Comments:::

      The account activation is really not moderated, it is simply a way to ensure the email account is valid by sending a activation link in email. The user can still register, get this email(or not) and automatically activate their own account. So this doesn't work for us at all.

      New Users will be unable to log in to the web site until they have clicked the activation link. This link takes them to an activation page which would then confirm that they are able to log in. If the "No" radio button is chosen, Users will be able to log in right away without any further activation requirements.

      Front-end Login: Choose whether to have the Login Form fields displayed or not. This allows control of when Users can login to the web site but without making the site Offline or Unpublishing the Login Form Module . Select Yes to show the Username, Password, and ...No account yet? Create one...(if enabled above) fields and message. Select No to hide these same elements.

      This doesn't help either based on what I have explained above.

      I guess I am going ot have to look into the forum fireboard to see if that will allow me to do what I need.

      We just want the ability for users to register, but a moderator has to approve their account before it becomes active.

      You wouldn't think that was such a hard thing to do, should be like a simple switch or something.
