Good Afternoon
A client has requested that I create a website for them that holds information about specialist education courses. They wanted to be able to list and compare similar courses in their catalogue.
this sounded simple enough to me. I suppose I would create articles detailing each course and place similar courses in similar categories.
the only stumbling point for me is the client wants to be able to charge a nominal fee to give the student the contact details for the course provider.
so the course information would be out in the open but the contact info for the trainer would not be provided until the student paid. Looking to hear your ideas on how this would be best achieved with Joomla and if any other plugins etc Many Thanks in advance for any help you could offer.

Simplest method would be just to whack a paypal buy now button in the articles. Someone would obviously then need to action the paypal payments. Or you could go for a shop ecommerce extension (look on JED) or you could go for a "media download" extension (again see JED).
It really depends on the detail you want and the analysis you want and how much automation you want.

Hi,
Ideally they would like the display of the training company's contact info to be fairly automated after payment
Would there be a way to restrict access to a specific article until payment is made?

Look on JED there are solutions. You could do things with Joomla ACL to restrict some content to only paying members but to do that by specific article would be very complicated. It would be better to use a purpose made ecommerce solution.
