    • I don't confess to be a CSS expert at all. Before starting with Joomla, are normally only used to use it on content rather than building a website/links etc etc. I was a bit lazy, I would just use gifs. However, I have taken a bit more of an interest in it now and would like to practice on one of the templates to see how I can change things around. I have installed itGazette and will have a test on that. I did notice in sight of the month, someone had altered considerably. What I want to know is which part of the CSS controls where the links go, particularly the top link. I want to try and move the menu to see what looks like.

    • If you are using Firefox as your broser you can D/L developers tools, Firebug and the like. With these aids one can easy develop thier page and do some non destructive testing before commiting changes.... these browser aids will tell you exactely which file you need and on which line in the css file you need to go to to apply changes..

    • I don't use Firefox, although I've got installed on my PC. Whereabouts do I look for this piece of software you are talking about, I have actually heard of it but never used it. It would certainly help me determine which CSS is what

    • okay, I found something called CSS viewer. Looks pretty cool. The only problem I'm finding is when I hover over content on a page, the CSS overlaps the box that shows so it's difficult to read. Anyway, is this what you are referring to? it certainly tells you exactly what div/class things are anyway.so at least you know where to go and look on the stylesheet

    • found another one called Firebird. I think using this will in conjunction with CSS the other may be best, since it gives you a whole stylesheet

      Well, there's your first mistake right there :D

      You need the FF Developer Tools, not CSSViewer (which can be a bit of a pain). Dev tools has it's own, more comprehensive viewer, and you can also edit CSS in a live site, very handy.

    • The main reason why I don't use Firefox is because Dragon NaturallySpeaking doesn't work properly in it. And being disabled, I use Dragon all the time. However, if it will help me, I can switch back and forth.

      Now you mention FF development tools, if this the name I am looking for, or are there individual programmes?

    • I, too, am new to all this and recently, per James' signature, downloaded FF's developer tools and some other add-ons...Godsend.

      I recently found the color picker/eyedropper add-on thing-a-ma-jing...almost embarrassed to tell you how I use to match colors in my logo with colors used in the templates I was using. :)

      Any other 'must-haves' for FF and web development? Perhaps a sticky list is in order?

    • The two tools that I use the most in the Firefox Web Developer Toolbar are the Information/ Display Element Information function and the CSS/ Edit CSS function.
