Old Joomla websites creating issues

    • I have 30+ Joomla websites with Rockettheme templates that I have neglected for the last three years.
When I tried to add some fresh content on them, I ran into a number of issues.
Here is what I have just done:
      a) updated them to the latest version of Joomla 3 (no time to migrate them to v4 right now)
      b) set the newest PHP version that I could without breaking the sites.
      c) installed the latest version of Gantry 4 and 5
      d) deinstalled all unnecessary plugins

My Rockettheme subscription expired a while ago, and the templates have thus not been updated in a while.

Problems on some of the sites:
      1. In some of the backends, the dropdown menus are not working.
      2. On some sites, the frontend menus have disappeared
      3. Some sites only run on PHP 7.4, others only on 8.0, some on PHP 8.2

Now I am wondering if this might be because of the outdated templates only ( I will def renew my subscriptions and update them), or could something else contribute to the issues?

    • Please check the changelogs for each theme against what version you're running specifically for PHP fixes as to what version of PHP your template supports.

Gantry 4 is only Joomla 3x and PHP 7.4 compatible.

When migrating from J3 to J4+ (only possible with Gantry 5) I'd recommend clearing out all of your overrides in the theme's /html/ folder... compare with a fresh download to see what's there by default. Similarly check all your extensions and/or just disable all 3rd party extensions except Gantry 5, as many J3 extensions are not compatible with J4+ including all the legacy "rok" extensions like RokSprocket, RokCommon, etc.
