Converting a template from J1.0 to J1.5

Is it possible to convert a (non-rocketthemes) theme which works on J1.0 to J1.5?
Currently if tried as it is on a J1.5 installation the page just comes up with an error 'Direct access to this location is not allowed' (or something very similar).
I'd be grateful for some advice with this. The main problem is this J1.0 is very customised, includes flash moviwes at the header and money was spent on that, and people will be upset of they need to spend that same money again every time Joomla does a major version change.
