Dumb Question re Content linkage

Hi all
please bear with me while I try to understand how this all hangs together....
Using Joomla 1.5
I have built Section 1 and 2, Category 1 and 2 and 3 - 1 &2 lives in S1 3 in S2
I have one article A1 living in S1, C1
Menu says M1=S1, M2=S2 M3=S3
First Question: I want A1 accessible by menu navigation S1,C1 but I also want it appearing automatically on home page - how do I do that as well
Second Question: once I navigate through section and category - how do I switch off the option to search for content - I simply want to see the choices at Category level and get those pages loaded.

I hate to sound like a broken record although J1.5 is still fairly new to us all, since this is a template site it may this question may have a better response over at
www.joomla.org
many people over there could probably answer this question much more throughly.
Although I could probably offer a little help, but it would be a brute force way of doing it and probably the most inefficient.
When you create an article you can then setup a menu by going into the menu manager create a new menu called articles (or whatever you want) publish it on the left or right (where ever you can see the entire menu) and give it "Special" access.
Then create a new menu item by selecting article and then select the article you want. Right mouse click and copy shortcut on the new menu item and then on the menu you want to display to everyone use an external link and past the shortcut in the URL.
