2nd item navigation on top

Hi all,
I am trying to get the item navigation doubled. The usual "Prev Next" on the bottom, but I also want to include it at the top. I have come to the point that I have been able to get the navigation at the top, but only 1 of the 2 navigations work. The top works, the bottom item navigation ow only leads to the homepage.
I know I have to edit some php files like content.php and content.html.php in the com_content folder and did so, but to no avail.
I found a site where they have the solution, only this is for older Mambo. http://www.hbware.com/content/view/36/13/
I hope there is someone outthere that based on the url, could give some hints or pointers on how and what in Joomla 1.0.x to have this running. - Best regards,
