    which forum to use?

Posted 16 years 9 months ago
    • I’m looking for a nice looking, good-working and esp. easy-to-use forum, but I have zero experience with a forum.

I’m using Joomla 1.5 with the RocketTheme template MediaMogul, Community Builder CB 1.2 RC2 and VirtueMart 1.1.2.

It should use optimal the possibilities of CB; e.g. no double login for both the website and the forum.

I see a lot of forums, like Simpleboard (=JoomlaBoard), Fireboard, SimpleMachine, the RokBridge with phpBB3 and the commercial vBulletin.

      What is wise?

    • okay, I'll choose defenitly for FireBoad.

In the meanwhile, I have been playing a little bit with FireBoard, SMF and phpBB3. I agree that this choise is probably the best for me.

Thanks a lot for your good advices. :)

    • Be sure to strongly consider whether or not you need "group" permissions...as I'm pretty sure Fireboard still is not able to do so.

    • Fireboard has a nifty little "discussbot" code that can be added to each news article. This bot feature allows the reader to click a link at the bottom of the article and be automatically transported to the Fireboard forum to discuss the article. If a thread has not been created, the discussbot creates one.

Does RokBridge for PHPBB3 have a similar feature?

What are the pro's and con's of each type of forum?
