new Joomla site along with current Live site on GoDaddy

    • Hello!

      New to Joomla here...but question:
My client's site is on GoDaddy, and they've already got a live site now.

If I wanted to show the client say on their site in a "TEST" directory, where the current Joomla development is:: www.them.com/TEST

...how can I do this, and is it even possible? I'm assuming I just work in the TEST directory for the meantime before going "LIVE".

    • Retired, but build and run websites for organisations of school leaders and others - e.g. http://www.icponline.org, http://www.aspa.asn.au, http://www.appa.asn.au

    • I'm interested in the answer to this as well.

Currently, we set up our test and development sites as a subdomain (e.g. test.client.org ) of the client's domain (e.g. www.client.org ) and then change addresses when the client is happy to go live.

    • Hi all!

So, for me...it's was simple...the old site w/ the Joomla/new layout directory was like this:
      http://www.oldsite.com  ...for the current site
      www.oldsite.com/Joomla  ; for the Joomla upcoming site/layout.

When I was done w/ the Joomla site and it was approved, all I did was move the Joomla directory up to root...that was it. I did nothing else.

I did however have to use a .htaccess file I got from here (must be some GoDaddy thing...I don't know) for the SEO:
      forum.joomla.org/viewtopic.php?f=544&p=1468690

...I waited for at least a half day/full day till I turned on the first two radio buttons (clicked "Yes").

One thing I noticed too...if you have an existing .php files that are the same name as the Article alias...it will go to that old page...at least mine did. So, rename your old .php file to something like file_orig.php...and that worked for me.

      Thanks!
