Grammar Used in the IE6 Warning

Posted 16 years 6 months ago
    • "Your are currently browsing this site with Internet Explorer 6 (IE6)."

I searched the forum and couldn't find anyone else mentioning this, which is hard to believe.

      Should be either...

You are currently.... or You're currently....

Given that the improper text is an image opposed to editable text, any chance there's a replacement image available?

    • Did this get added to your bug tracker to fix? I have just finished changing it in a boat load of previous templates. I know it is a nit but I always feel like bad grammer and spelling errors on my sites are a reflection on me!

    • Since when was it called "Service Pack 1 for Internet Explorer 6"? It's called "Internet Explorer 6 Service Pack 1"
      www.microsoft.com/downloads/details.aspx...28de6&displaylang=en

Also, IE6 SP1 was released in September 2002, not December 2004.

IE6 SV1 (Security Version 1) (=IE6 SP2) was released August 2004, and is available only as part of Windows XP SP2 and later.

What do you mean "As of Feb 12th, 2008 Microsoft is forcing updates to Internet Explorer 6...<snip>"?. IE6 is still available for XP SP3.

Internet Explorer 6 SP1 is the latest version of Internet Explorer available for users running versions of Windows previous to Windows XP.

Also, I don't think this grammar is correct (doesn't make sense to me):

"In October of 2006, Microsoft released version 7 of Internet Explorer that, in addition to providing greater safety in navigation, which allows the Internet Explorer browser to identify as' modern browsers'."

      Cheers,
      Marty

The Your / You're has been fixed in all the template files.

I'll submit the other suggestions as well.

    • Here's my little giveback to the Rockettheme community, a rewrite of the IE6 warning message that embodies all commentary voiced in this thread. I invite its incorporation by users and developers of future templates.

You are currently browsing this site with Internet Explorer 6 (IE6)

NOTE: This template works with IE6, but upgrading can enhance your online experience.

Microsoft released its final version of IE6, Internet Explorer 6 SV1 (Security Version 1) in April of 2008 as part of its XP Service Pack 3 Release. Since that date, the company has actively encouraged migration to the company's much improved and more secure replacement, Internet Explorer Version 7 (IE7). IE7 provides much greater safety in web navigation, and gives Internet Explorer upgraded display capabilities for viewing the latest web sites. By continuing to run Internet Explorer 6, you leave yourself open to numerous security vulnerabilities. We recommend that you take this opportunity to upgrade your protection and improve the quality of your web browsing. Internet Explorer 7 is available as a free download with no certification requirements. The link below provides direct access to Microsoft's download.

    • Great. Please note that I just posted a small mod to correct my own grammar mistake. You may want to forward what's up now instead.

Off topic --. You've helped me SOOO much already, and taught me SOO much. If at some point you can just tell me why the main menu module posted on lisms.com throws a W3C duplicate ID error, I'd be forever grateful. Can't seem to get anything back on my previous posts. Thank you, thank you, thank you.

    • In fact, IE6 is still supported and distributed by Microsoft. It will be supported to the end of the support lifecycle for Windows XP. I was wrong, the last update for IE6 was in April 2008, as part of XP SP3.
