    • Hello

When you create your RocketLauncher versions of your club downloads you put the files into a subfolder. For example in Joomla_RT_Perihelion_j15.zip you created a subfolder called Joomla_RT_Perihelion_j15.

I don't see any good purpose for those subfolders. It only causes extra work when these files are uploaded as one big zip file and extracted on the server (for example in CPANEL). When extracting in cpanel, instead of extracting the files into the preferred root / it creates the useless directory called Joomla_RT_Perihelion_j15 and deposits all the files into that directory -- which is something nobody wants :)

So what I have to do every time I create a joomla site using your RocketLaunchers I first have to extract all the files onto my local drive and make a new zip file without that pesky subdirectory. It's time consuming and annoying to have to do this every time. This is counterproductive -- especially for what is supposed to be for the timesaving RocketLaunchers.

Perhaps I'm missing some good reason why the subdirectory is included in those zip files. But I doubt it! :)

Any thoughts or comments from others?

Thanks (for your wonderful templates -- but no thank you for the maddening subdirectory in your RocketLauncher zip files!)

    • The sub folder is created automatically, it's not done intentionally.

This happens whenever you zip a folder with subdirectories.

You can test this yourself, after unzipping a folder that you've compressed, they'll be a folder within the folder, both with the same name.

Along with an RT template, as a matter of fact, I just went through this with a few phpBB installs today.

I uploaded the zips and extracted on my server through the CP only to find that the phpBB_3.0 folder had another folder inside named phpBB_3.0!

Anyway, to make life a little easier, here's what I do:

Upload the zip and extract it on the server as usual.

      There'll be a 'this_month's_template' folder with a 'this_month's_template' folder inside.

      Not to worry....

Go to the file manager of your CP, select the 'this_month's_template' folder, the directory will expand and you'll see the other 'this_month's_template' folder.

Choose it and copy or move it to the root.

      Once it's moved, rename it.

    • Hi
Thanks for your reply. And I'll try your suggestion.

However I am a bit confused. because my own fix is to extract the files onto my local drive. I create a new zip file and select all of the files into it. The new zip is created -- and there is no subfolder. I upload that new zip file to the root, extract it with Cpanel and all of the files are properly in the root -- and not in a sub folder.

      Can others comment on this??

      Thanks,

    • Using CPANEL (a popular admin panel that a lot of hosting companies use, such as Hostgator) You can upload the entire zip and then go to the CPANEL file manager and click on the zip file and it totally extracts the files into the server.

Ten times faster than uploading the files via ftp. Once you upload the zip it takes under 10 seconds for the server to extract the files.

If your hosting uses CPANEL (or some other control panel that has a file manger you should try it out.

    • There's not a directory in the zip, but some zip tools automatically create a directory (eg default bomarchviver that comes with os x), but others do not (eg zip on linux).

    • When I download Joomla software compressed zip straight from Joomla and upload the zip onto my server (hosted by Rochen) and unzip it via the convenient uncompress button in my file manager - files go directly into place where I want them - no sub folder. :D

If I use Rocket Launcher, upload to server and unzip...I get the sub folder RT Blah, blah, blah. So, I know what Rowby is talking about. ;)

      1) I am going to try his suggestion of unzipping and zipping before I upload to server. (Thanks for the tip)
      2) When I want it in a sub folder - I will leave it as is and rename it.
3)As for Mike VanKirk suggestions - sorry no way uploading uncompressed takes to long (but I did enjoy your video, although I speed watched it) - I am spoiled with ZIP/UNZIP in the host file manager.

But yes, I always thought that was strange and wasn't sure why you set up RTLaunchers that way...but now I see, if I am reading Miller's response right, it is because you are using Macs :P when you zip them to begin with - maybe you should switch to PC's. ::) :P

    • The Wingman is right. When anyone downloads the Joomla packages from joomla.org and extracts them via the hosting company's file manager (most hosting companies have them) the Joomla packages do not create that subdirectory. So I am assuming that it may have something to do with the Rockettheme staff creating the zip files with a Mac.....

Again it defeats the whole purpose of the Rocketlauncers when they create that useless subdirectory. Very few people want to install the RocketTheme ROcketLaunchers in a subdirectory. They want Joomla to be installed in the root of the webserver.

Anyone who has instantly extracted packages such as the Joomla core zips via hosting companies such as Cpanel (and I assume Plesk has a similar Filemanager) never wants to use slow-pokey FTP to upload files. I also use CPANEL to instantly extract JoomlaPack archives right on the server. (Few hosting companies do not have on line filemangers -- however 1and1 does not have an on line file manager -- which is one of the reasons I don't use 1and1 for Joomla sites, BTW.)

So I hope someone at Rockettheme is watching this thread and will correct this inconvenient and timewasting subdirectory in all of the past and future RocketLaunchers.

Thanks, in the spirit of Open Source,

      Rowby

I don't think the RT developers are guilty of any crime... pbpBB developers must be using Mac, too? :)

The 'workaround' in reply #1 seems simple enough.

Plesk has a similar Filemanager, but not the possibility to extract a package.
