Blog in Joomla 1.5?

    • I would like to add a blog to a 1.5 site. I don't need anything complicated just something that will allow users to reply and I can use inside the template I have. It would be nice to have latest comments on the front page. Is anything like this possible without spending much? If anyone could give me the noob explanation of blogs in Joomla it would be appreciated. Why isn't this already in Joomla?

    • Rudy.. you should be able to handle that pretty easy with any of a number of templates.. RT has several here which will work fine.. and then you can just use the articles function of joomla.

add in a com_comments and your golden.

    • The template I want to put this in now is Perihelion.
Could you give a step by step?
I don't know what a com_comment is and a Google search and search at Joomla didn't help me. :)

    • Hey Rudy,

Joomla has built in blog functionality but does not come with a comments system.

To setup a blog, you just have to configure your menu item to show as a "blog layout." There are a few different choices but they each serve different purposes. Front Page Blog Layout is used for the first page a user sees when they visit your site. Section Blog Layout and Category Blog Layout are used to distinguish between the two different article grouping features of Joomla. They will all appear the same in the end. You just need to figure out how you want to organize your website and articles to decide which will be the best option for you.

As for the commenting system, there are several free and commercial options. RocketTheme has a comment plugin called RokIntenseDebate which is free. There's also a very popular commercial component called JomComment. If you search the Joomla extensions directory there are many more to be found.

      Hope that helps.

    • I would say that the built-in blog of Joomla, is not what you would expect if you use stuff like WordPress.

It doesn't walk, talk or feel like a blog :)

I suggest you do it either:

      1. By using the built in content/article style of the Joomla-blog and the add JomComment to let your users comment

      or

      2. By using Azrul's MyBlog, which lets you add, edit and maintain your blog more Wordpress-like style.
