Question on url error message

  • Question on url error message

Posted 16 years 5 months ago
    • [SOLVED] I'm new with Joomla and don't know where to ask this question. I've loaded a joomla templete and was editing images and unpublishing modules and now I have an error message when I try to review my changes. "The URL is not valid and cannot be loaded." I've deleted the template and reloaded it but still get the same error message.

The screen now shows a standard style and color style for the replicant2 template yet my files show the image changes and module changes that I made on the first install.

Can some help give me direction on this?

      Thank you,

Sounds like an error you get when with a Wrapper that has no URL. It's hard t osay without actually seeing the page where the error occurs.

I've deleted the template and reloaded it but still get the same error message. The screen now shows a standard style and color style for the replicant2 template yet my files show the image changes and module changes that I made on the first install.

      OK, to clarify....

deleted the template = using the template on an existing install, deleted it ad reinstalled?

The screen now shows... = reinstalled Jooomla with the template on an existing install? By any chance have you installed Joomla twice on the same database?

    • OK, to clarify....
I did disable the wrapper module and it removed the error message but I still get the wrong body style and color style as well as the default logo (not the one I replaced it with).

#1.deleted the template = using the template on an existing install, deleted it ad reinstalled?

Yes I deleted the template and verified that it was gone before. I installed the template again.

#2. reinstalled Jooomla with the template on an existing install? By any chance have you installed Joomla twice on the same database?

I don't recall having done that - but I do remember see a "reload" in the process. I am not familiar enough with Joomla yet to know if I reinstalled Joomla twice. If I did install Joomla twice what do you recommend?

      I appreciate your advice.

    • It depends on what you want to do.

From what it sounds like, 'The screen now shows a standard style and color style for the replicant2 template yet my files show the image changes and module changes that I made on the first install.', you've appplied the template to an exisiting install.

      Template:

NOTE: Native Joomla! 1.5 Edition - One of our most popular template designs makes its return in the brand new Replicant v2. Replicant v2 takes the spirit of the original Replicant to an entirely new level with an unprecedented level of style, beauty, and flexibility. Combining the beauty of a powerful transparent design, with a whole new level of features and functionality, Replicant v2 is really something special.

      Rocket Launcher:

This package contains a full Joomla 1.5.7 install as well as the Replicant v2 template and demo sample content allowing you to easily deploy a perfect copy of the Replicant v2 demo site with a few clicks. (Only for use as a NEW Joomla install).

What are you trying to accomplish? Apply the template to an existing install, or start out with a replica of the demo template and edit / customize it from there?

I don't know how much data you have in the existing site.

If you just installed Joomla with the sample data then applied the template, it's worth starting fresh with the Rocket Launcher. One thing that happens when you apply is that things get moved around as the template positions from template to template vary. You have to go through the site moving your content around to match the locations of the new modules, etc.

If your existing site was live and contains quite a bit of data, it still might be worth starting over again. In that case, I'd create a second database, install the template, then move the data from the old site to the new one.

    • The replicant site was not live yet. I don't have much data in the existing install. Mostly image changes that can easily be uploaded again.

      Thanks for the help.

    • I've been able to get the site to show what I am changing now but have come across another issue. the page is changing how I want it but at the bottom of each page is another page of Profile Information.
Is this evidence of installing Joomla twice?

If not, do you know how I can get rid of the Profile Information at the bottom of the page ?
More importantly so I don't make that mistake again-whatever it is.

Thank you for all your help.

    • Could you please provide a link to your site, and if applicable, a direct URL to the issue?

If you are on a local install, you can use FireFox and FireBug, a free debugging tool to inspect your site.

    • [SOLVED] I have re-investigated what I enabled and discovered that I left the debug enabled and it caused the profile information to appear on the bottom of the page.

Thank you again for all your help.
