Joomla + Rocketheme + Smf

    • I have a Joomla site and a Smf forum that I have been wanting to integrate for a few years. I know there is no official bridge anymore, but I am curious what my options may be. I have not actively pursued this because I am afraid it would cost me a kidney to have this done. Most importantly I have to have a Rocketheme template.

    • I am converting to 1.5 presently. I am a little scared to do this but, I think that maybe it would be possible to take a copy of the forum and the site first to see if it works?

It is the best and recommended solution, Backup, Backup, Test, Test, this is how I do it.

    • So do I need to hire a programmer for this? Sell a kidney?

No, you just have to set up a test platform and see how it works before your decide.

Create two sub directories on your site, install a fresh copy of Joomla in one, and SMF in the other and test away.

If one solution doesn't work, try another, you've got nothing to lose.

You can delete and reinstall the test installs of Joomla and SMF as many times as you like or need to.

When you get something that works, you can apply it to your live site.

But before you do, as always, back up your site, forum, and their respective databases.

    • You assume that I know anything about directories, lol. I guess it is time to learn. Thank you.

    • A directory is just another name for a folder... :)

It's simple... e.g., create a folder called 'joomla_test' and another called 'smf_test', upload the install packages to those folders and run the installs as you normally would.

So when you want to go to work on either, you'd go to:

      www.mysite.com/joomla_test , or www.mysite.com/smf_test

... of course replacing 'mysite.com' with your URL. 8)
