Hi everybody, I'm new so please stay with me!!!
Ok, I am having no success installing anything in Joomla. I'm trying to install extensions via the built in installer, but when I try to do this, it just takes me to a blank page. I have a godaddy windows shared hosting plan, and they offer to install joomla for you with their "hosting connection". I have tried doing that along with using rocketlauncher. Everything else works fine, except I can't install anything. I have heard a solution to increase "the php time out" time to at least 60 seconds. Sadly I have no idea how to do this, I have email godaddy support and they have said they don't offer support for specific coding. I have just installed a new version of joomla with rocketlauncher @

. I'm not really sure how everything in Joomla works, so any advice would help!!! Thanks for all you help!
OK, I was successful in installing one module, once I created a php.ini file, with the recommended settings to the php execution time and memory limits. Now I am trying to install another module that is larger than the previous and it gives me the blank page again. I have also tried installing Jomsocial. I don't know if anyone is familiar with this, but I can't install it for the life of me. Thanks for any help!
I once had a problem like this and since I am having a copy of my sites on my local computer, I installed the module there and then uploaded all the files of that new modules folder to my real server.
It might be a strange way of doing things, but it worked and maybe you want to give it a try.
OK, after a few hours of trying to install Joomla locally, I was successful! But with the local installation I am having no luck, when I try to install a module, it takes me to a blank page once again. I put the modified "php.ini" file inside that folder to see if it would make a difference, but no... I can definitely see how your idea, Kat, would work- and should. I'm baffled by this? I don't know what to do ? So if anybody has any other ideas, let me know... I was wondering if there was anyway to install the modules manually? I've tried just dropping the unzipped file into the Module folder in my Joomla installation, but with no luck? Thanks for any help! And if I'm doing something wrong as far as local installation, let me know.
Hi JEM, thanks for the link, but I've tried all of those programs, and had no success. I am currently using XAMPP on a windows computer, and am successfully running my joomla site locally. My problems is just with installing modules. Thanks for the link though.
