    • adding on from a previous post i am whilst trying to update an existing template i would like to learn how to go about creating my own template and was looking for some advise.

What steps do you take when starting a new template?

ami right in thinking that you could design on paper, design in photoshop/fireworks/slice the site then to be honest not sure what the next steps are

so any help with the above would be great, thanks

    • I have found this site to be VERY useful in the process.

      www.compassdesigns.net/tutorials/208-joo...mplate-tutorial.html

TO answer your question, yes you can sketch up or photoshop and slice a template. But you will be doing some extra things as you will see in the tutorial. Not a biggie since most of the stuff in there is HTML template but things to include content/modules and such are not hard to learn.

Follow that tutorial. It does coincide with the Joomla one but I find this site filled with easy to follow steps and files to download to help walk you through.

One other note, alot I have learned came from deconstructing/reverse engineering RT themes. I mostly just play around with them to learn new techniques and better CSS solutions.

      Good luck.
