    • Hi there,

Just wondering if you've seen the latest JomSocial! It looks really promising for us Joomla users! Now, all we need is the great folks at RocketTheme to make a smashing few templates for it!

Been a long time since you guys released a social networking theme - why not grab hold and make a wicked JomSocial one? (Hint hint nudge nudge)

Here is their link - cheers! www.jomsocial.com/

Please RT .. we need to see a jomsocial template

And you'll get one just as soon as JomSocial has GPL or at least free 'lite' version :)

Bonus template are derivatives of existing templates, light or dark versions Essentials, etc.

To create a 'bonus' template with JoomSocial would require making a new template, not a bonus.

You can use JoomSocial with any RT theme, or any other theme for that matter.

It's up to you as a webmaster, designer, developer etc to make it integrate into your site.

Of course we can help tweaking it a bit, but again because of its commercial status, I don't think you'll see a JoomSocial template here, or anywhere else.

I won't link to them or use their name, but there is one out there and a bunch in development. Google 'JomSocial template joomla'.

As I mentioned before, Populus is the most favored on bestofjoomla and starting to show its age already; I think a generic community look and feel template would serve RT well...can you say membership spike? :)

And don't forget: Communicado! (my proposed name for the upcoming community template) :)

Well, you know Terp, even if RT did develop ONE template for JoomSocial, there'd be tons of requests like we see in the forums for new templates.

      For example:

When TerranTribune came out, many wanted to incorporate RokMiniNews in other templates.
When Vertigo came out, many wanted to incorporate the Vertigo effect in other templates.
When Akiraka came out, many wanted to incorporate the Login and Search in other templates.

The list goes on, it's the same for any template when a new feature comes out.

Within the 'RT World' a lot of that is possible, and some not really possible, but we do our best to accommodate our users and support our templates.

If you look at the questions and answers in this forum, you'll be quick to find that almost half of the questions answered here are not RT template related.

The moderators here go above and beyond the norm answering questions ranging from simple installs and basic Joomla question all the way through debugging 3rd party components and answering question that are ignored on 3rd party component developer's sites.

Along with JoomSocial, there's the constant request for a VirtueMart template. Again, if one was released, they'd be a barrage of questions about how to incorporate the features in xxx template.

So releasing either, IMHO would be a nightmare... Along with supporting 80+ templates, the moderators would have to try to answer all questions regarding incorporating this feature in that template along with the 'I posted in the xxx forum a week ago and haven't received a response' questions.

Can you imagine getting RT questions or questions about other 3rd party components in the Fabric forum? How many would you answer and how many would you redirect?

As far as 'membership spike' since JoomSocial is a commercial product, as Andy mentioned before, the user base is too small, and JoomSocial can't be bundled with and RT package like CB or FireBoard. It would be crazy to feature a template and tell current or potential customers this template will work only if you purchase a license for JoomSocial.

As I mentioned previously, it's up to you as a webmaster, designer, developer etc to make it integrate into your site.

Of course we can help tweaking it a bit, but if you can't get it to work, use an alternative, or hire someone to tweak it a bit for you.

:D You can't take your TV to the car repair shop or your car to the TV repair shop. :D

    • I hear you, JEM, but it's really too bad.

I've tried all of the available community components and nothing is more solid that JomSocial, but JS templates clash with many of the premium templates out there. Although, I firmly believe that RocketTheme offers the finest Joomla templates available, I may be forced to move to a lesser template in order to leverage JomSocial.

I'm sure you heard the same about PHPBB3 at one time. I'm a member of both of your clubs, so moving to something like CommunityPraise will be a kick in the wallet. However, in the end, we all must do what is best for our sites.

Right now, I'm desperate for a Terra Tribune JomSocial theme, but I just don't have the CSS experience to create one on my own or know anyone who does.

    • Just curious... what do you mean by 'jomsocial' theme?
ve tried all of the available community components and nothing is more solid that JomSocial
I'd like to see a list of those if you care to share. My personal experience with JomSocial has not been pleasant, but I may operate differently than others. I purchased it on Day One... and would have been better off giving the money to my favorite charity.
My experience with them says that if you have a real issue....you can't count on them. In business mode, I need partners I can rely on when it gets tough. I don't see a GPL out of them anytime soon. The closest they've released is the 'JomSocial Standard' which says for 99 bucks you can get a site that has their name all over it. Gee... thanks.
