i think Joomla and other CMSs are good thing to have at your disposal but you can't rely on them all the time when producing professional sites for clients especially if you want to charge top dollar you need to actually look like YOU have done some of the work rather than let someone else do it for you.
Even with xhtml and css, there are times when you will need to provide a full featured web site for a client and why build it from scratch when there are perfectly good framework solutions such as Joomla to pick from?
"Who uses joomla to create websites for businesses and do you think this would be a good move with joomla?"
My conservative guess would be half the members here use Joomla to create websites for businesses, from the low end of a couple of sites a year to the developers who have a hundred clients or so.
I'd focus on learning css and how to edit graphics, that way you could use Joomla as the core and concentrate on tweaking the templates to customize them for customers rather than building each from scratch.
Perfect answers i was looking for, CSS is very fun to learn.
As for graphics what would you guys recommend photoshop or fireworks? As you know they are not cheap to purchase and don't want to make the wrong decision. :cheesy:
At The Turn Group our Joomla Web Development company, Joomla is the only platform we use for all of our business clients. In the last 6 years, we have yet to come across a project that Joomla couldn't handle. With our below industry standard pricing, I don't know why you would use anything else but Joomla.
