Should I move inline css and scripts?

  • Should I move inline css and scripts?

    • I run 1.5.9 and Rockttheme MixxMag template at www.bryllup.dk

      I got this advice :

"You got a lot of java, scripts, css etc. inline. Your site would benefit from moving this to external files."

      How do I do that?

Is it "nice to have" more than really "need to have"?

if it's "need to have", why isn't it made like this from the start in RT templates? :)

Ps. Would I benefit in this matter from migrating to Mynxx ?

    • The javascripts that you have running inline are mostly (90%) 3rd party javascripts. So the question is not really related to RT javascripts, or to the RT templates.
From your webpage it is clear that you are using a great load of third party mods/plugins/components. Easily identifiable are jreviews and a shoutbox and google adsense. Changing to Mynxx would not change anything. You can start optimizing all the third party js and css that is being loaded. You are furthermore loading 2 javascript libraries, jquery and mootools, but with the types of modules that you are using that is almost inevitable.

    • Hi Roeland

Thanks for taking time out to write your answer !

I'm not the tech-type....more webmaster......so I'm not sure what the benefit would be, at all, from putting it in external files. Are you? That's what I ment by "is it nice to have or need to have" :)

Is loading both jquery and mootools a bad thing? If so, why?

Do you think I would benefit from using less mods/plugins/components?

    • It all depends on what you want from your site. The forum here is full of tips on what to do and why. I suggest reading up on some of the topics related to javascript and css optimization.
Loading two libraries is not a "bad thing" it just slows your site down, it will degrade performance, but if you do not care about site load times it is not an issue.
This is all a matter of choice, depending as on what I stated before, what do you want and expect from your site. I won't go into it all in depth, because most of this information is all available in the RT forums.
