What's the best free extension for Joomla 1.5 for blogging?
It should look look good on a main page or as a sidebar on a page. I must avoid any extensions for which the content is managed externally such as intensedebate.com because it is a customer requirement that all data be managed locally. - Steve Amerige,

Well, opinions vary so you'll probably get a mixed response, but the bottom line is you'll need to pick out that suits your needs.
You're probably best off searching for the free ones in the JED and installing them locally for testing.
